Track 8.  Pua Līlia 4:51  (Alfred Unauna Alohikea)
Paula searched the byways of Hā‘ena and Hanalei on Kaua‘i for the ‘ohana of songwriter Alfred Unauna Alohikea before Jim ultimately found Alohikea’s great-grandchildren on O‘ahu. We thank them for giving us their blessing to record their great-grandfather’s mele aloha, which compares a woman to a lily flower. Pili
adds his warm baritone to the harmony.

Pua Līlia (Lily Flower)

By Alfred Unauna Alohikea

‘Auhea wale ‘oe e ka ua               Listen to the rain
He nihi a‘e nei i nā pali               Creeping silently along the cliffs
Ka helena o ia pua i ‘ako ‘ia       It looks as if this flower has been plucked
Ke popohe mai nei ia uka          Shapely the upland
Ia uka ho‘i a‘u e walea ai            The very upland that I'll enjoy
Me ke ‘ala onaona o ku‘u pua    With the sweet fragrance of my flower
He pua ‘oe na‘u e lei mau ai      You are a flower, always to wear as a lei
Ke ‘ala o ku‘u pua līlia                The fragrance of my lily blossom
